Thumbs up Update. Rust on 91 Ultra Frame.

After all the excellent advice recently I decided to remove the engine and gearbox from Frame. I managed the engine (heavy)removal on my own after stripdown. I am now ready to remove gearbox. It looks like I can remove S/Arm spindle and thats about it before I transport the frame (on trailer) to repairer. S/A spindle will have to be refitted for transporting bike to repairer.
Once again big thank you to Dr Hess and all for input.
Have singled out the good Doc as it was his advice re. "I wouldnt ride the bike in that condition" that encouraged me not to "cut corners" and to do the stripdown. Im sure I will be asking more questions as progress is made.
Safe riding! Bungo.

It is east of normal!

Austin TX has a slogan that says " Keep Austin Weird"
I live west of Austin.

I think you've spent too much time in the sun!

To Bungo, we're lookin' over your shoulder, hoping things work out fine!

If the bike is bare when you deliver it to your shop, down to frame and wheels, I reckon you should be able to remove the trans, then refit the swingarm and axle using just the rear rubber mounts. Normally the trans casing provides support and it may be helpful to put a length of pipe (plastic water pipe should do), between the rubber mounts, to provide a little extra support, for wheeling the bike around. Just a thought.

Thanks Larry & grb. Taking trans out to clean up & repaint. Ive noticed that the main body of the trans casing has a rough "corroded/powdered" look to the surface especially at the rear mounting where the paint has come off over the years.
I dont want to sandblast trans casing for obvious reasons. Is it just a matter of wire brush & elbow grease. Any suggestions re. base primer & paint type(black).
Bungo.

Hi Graham,Thanks for that advice. Will be posting a couple of pics of the rusted section now that bike is stripped down and hope I can get some good advice re. type of repair needed. Rust is a bit worse than my earlier pics. show esp.on the l/h or nearside at the frame swinging arm mount area.. Great access now for repair though. All will be revealed soon.
Bungo.
Here are pics. of rust on frame. Pic. 5 is of the inside of rusted section. Rust is on both sides of area shown. A lot of the surrounding rust is superficial.
Probably the best suggestion was to get a "section" from an old Frame, cut out damaged section and weld "new" section in. metal tubing to insides of old frame tube for strength & welding.
Not easy to obtain a frame section in the UK. All suggestions from you guys
most welcome. Bungo

Quite possibly true.

The forecast in Texas during the summer is hot and sunny after all.
Hell they could shut down the weather channel all together.
All they got to say is hot and sunny.
