Default Honest Odometer ?

my Speedo/Odometer gear has been broken 3 times twice in the past 10 years, not being in a hurry to fix it I would say the bike may have 10 0r 15 thousand miles more than the odometer shows. So I am going to replace it a third time and would like to be more real on the mileage aspect. It shows just 98,000 miles now but i know that is not true, i would like to add say15,000 miles or so to be more accurate. My question to any one that knows???

Can I put a drill on the cable and advance the odometer to show a more honest mileage without damaging the speedo??? Perhaps silly but If ever it was sold I would want to be honest. I have no intention of selling and only a fool would buy a Harley with 120.000 miles but the truth is the truth.

Thanks for your help, I plan on doing it Monday, let me know.

My odometer started going backwards after I hit 100k. IF I ever sell it, it will be to a wrench and I'll just say it's got over 100k, that's all. By your estimates it's already over 100k, and if you're not selling it, who cares????

My first odometer broke somewhere around 103,500. I replaced the speedo somewhere around 104,000 I estimate. A few years later, I swapped speedometers for style to a type I'd always wanted., so it was reset to zero a third time. I have all this written in a log book, but the odometer hasn't been accurate since I rolled over 100,000/0 miles back in '03.

I live with it.

Suppose you run it on a drill @ 100mph....gonna take alot of hours to get 15K miles addded.... If you run it faster that the speed O will go you run the risk of breaking it... KISS applies here...!!!...lol

I guess I am a fool then because if I wanted it and it was the right price I would buy it.

Well that make sense. Thanks. I must be losing it. My wife told me so.

I've wrestled with this problem in the past. The only practical way is to manipulate the odometer wheels, however that risks damaging them and being accused of 'clocking' the mileage backwards! Best to simply keep records of approximate mileage.

Isn't there a company that can set it for you?
I seem to remember someone saying something like that at least.

I wouldn't worry about it. You know the mileage and if you do sell it, whoever buys it probably will be buying it because it is a good running bike. My speedometer cable has also broken a couple times. There are plenty of other "things" to worry over imho.
