Default Speedo change

Can an 84 speedo work on my 88? Would I need to change the drive unit? Will the 84 drive unit work on my 88? The first is my 88.

May be a stupid question but you're sure it's not the driver right Blu?

My speedo went out and like a dummy I removed the fairing, replaced the cable and still had the problem. Turned out it was the driver. I should've checked that first. Way easier job.

I'm not real sure. This is my story. The cable broke some time ago. Everything worked fine except the trip od. After the cable broke, I rode a while before replacing it. Ever since I put that new cable in, my speedo would read 20 when I was doing 50, something wrong there. Then, after my od turned 100k, it started going backward, until today, it stopped all together. My speedo still moves a little, but not much. What's really funny, is my auto volume control works fine! Go figure. I think it's the speedo. I just called my local stealership, and they have a drive unit for my bike, for $78.....

If you've got a few days I got mine at JPCycles for about $25. Has worked fine for about 10,000 miles now.

I'm just going to do without unless I bump into original equipment, or get a speeding ticket, whichever comes first!
