Blue Ridge
Went with a group of 6 that spanned ages from late 30's to early 60's that had a blast in South Dakota, same group is wanting to do another week long type of riding and checking out the Blue Ridge Parkway area in 2014.
Is there enough riding in that area for 5 days, good places to ride, watering holes good or bad. Places to stay that are biker friendly, the old codgers can still drink some beverages

Plenty of places to ride. We go there a lot. I would suggest Little Switzerland as a place to stay. The cottages sleep 3-4 people easily, all the roads around there are fairly twisty. As a bonus you are near Ashville which has the Biltmore Estate which is worth spending a day at. Be sure to try the McDonalds in Ashville, they have a classical piano player in it, not your typical McD's!!! As a bonus if you get up early, you can go to the Tail Of The Dragon and be back by dinner time!!!!
Hope this helps.

Plenty of great roads. We like to rent a cabin, should be pretty cheap if you split it several ways. Usually get a pool table and hot tub. The Wheels Through Time museum is a must see. I did the Biltmore because the ole lady wanted to. It was neat, but for all guys/motorcyclists you should visit Matt and Dale Walkslers museum where the bikes all run. They'll start some up for you and talk about the bikes with you. Saturday nights at the Maryville HD usually has concerts with beer and barbeque.
The Little Sw!tzerland !nn has a bunkhouse which is less $$ than the main hotel and your group is away from the crowd.
As an fyi, there are 1000's of miles of great riding down there and not just ( great as it is ) on the BRP.
Have a good time
and The Diamondback route is there in Little Switzerland http://www.diamondbacknc.com/ ( there is a pic on the site of the bunkhouse ).
I rode it on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in May and saw three other vehicles on the whole ride.
It was fun, no big deal, but an open road that day and beautiful.

Tail of the Dragon, The Rattler, Moonshiner 28, Cherohala Skyway, Foothills Parkway. I can go on for pages. The better half and I spend most of our vacation time down there. Biltmore is good, Maryville as well. Found a little BBQ place in Tellico plains called Krambonze.
When you get there, enjoy the scenery...

I live a couple of hours from the Blue Ridge Parkway. Man I love it up there. This is what I would do if I were coming in from a ways off. I'd start out on Skyline Drive in Virginia. Stop at the Chateau Morrisette Winery and then down to Mabry's Mill for country ham and grist mill pancakes. Then ease on down into NC. Stop in Mt. Airy at Snappy Lunch and eat a pork chop sandwich in honor of the Andy Griffith show. Then head back up through Fancy Gap to the parkway and down to Freebourn North for a cold one and more food. At some point you'll come near the Rider's Roost biker campground. They have tent sites or cabins. I have crashed at the cabins a few times. Beautiful place and nice people. It's in Ferguson NC. Then South to Boone and Blowing Rock. Eat at the Daniel Boone Inn in Boone or at Mellow Mushroom in Blowing Rock. Then South into the Pisgah National Forest for some of the most beautiful country I can think of. People have mentioned Little Switzerland the Viaduct is in that general area too. You come out near Asheville. Lots of places for beer and food there. Then South to Waynesville and ending on the Eastern Band Cherokee reservation. Fair warning. The hotels in Cherokee can be hit or miss. Safer to stay in Maggie Valley. I would then spend a day going down to the tail of the dragon and the Fontana lake area. Beautiful country. The next day I'd cross over the Smokies on 441 by Clingman's Dome into Gatlinburg. When you get there go to Cade's Cove. Holy cow that's a beautiful ride. Gas up before you go in there. Personally, I would avoid Pigeon Forge. Bad Traffic and hot in the summer. While you're over that way try the Cherohala Skyway. Very nice riding. That would be a good five days if you're not pushing too hard and stopping to see the sights. Knifeworks is on the other side of Pgeon Forge from Gatlinburg and every regular guy digs that place. If you go use the GPS and dont take the main drag through Pigeon Forge. I'd probably go more towards Seymour and through the country to get there. Have fun. Let me know when you plan this trip. I'll meet you up on the parkway and we'll ride some, grab some lunch.

Gotta appreciate the people here and thanks again! Falconbrother, will take you up on the ride as it will be more enjoyable with a local and not miss the watering holes plus some direction for great roads
"Falconbrother" has hit a lot of the highlights ... It is a fantastic area to ride in ... Try to avoid the weekend if your plans allow ( too many tourists in cars ) Try "AmericaRidesmaps.com" for maps and suggested rides in the areas surrounding the Smokies ... A stay in/around Cherokee, NC puts you in the heart of some of the better roads and rides in the region.
