Default Differences Between EVO Era Softail Frames

I'm planning a build and looking for info on the differences between the EVO era FLST and FXST softail frames. I'm working on a vintage 1946 EL look powered by an 80ci. Any info would be appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge there was no difference in EVO softail frames.

That said if your building a '46 you aren't working with a EVO frame.

All Softail model frames are the same, for the same model year...

84-85 had a 4 speed transmission.

86 model year has it own p/n, not sure if it is really different from the 87/88 frame.

89-99 same frame.

they moved around some brackets for the regulator - the early had a master reservoir in the front between the down legs - the oil drain had a stub for the hose come and gone between years - very early has shocks with reservoirs - gas tank dash center mount changes a few times / wire harness changes 5 or 6 times - - and on and on and on

they will all do the job you just have to buy with in the year block you find and they made many of all of them so parts are very available --

it might look like a 46 EL AT 50MPH going by - the real EL is very pricy we see them sell 40 50 grand and more i know a guy who has a bastard case its together and runs but it not right and needs 10 thousand in fix what stupid did wrong - he wants 25 thousand ??? i know what /// well I think its a 45 46 47 i seen it in the late summer we looked at it to buy and i believe he still has it he also has 5 or 6 other knuckels so money is not a thing --

they are around if you look but not cheap with a frame and paper 2 / 3 grand or a running junk for 5 grand i have seen -- jz

Thanks guys. Just the info I was lookin for. If the FX had been lighter than the FL I'd have opted for less pounds. I know it won't be an EL and I ain't gonna try to tell anyone it is. Just like that style but want newer technology. Plus, it's fun tinkering... I talked to Paughco in hopes that they had an EVO softail frame that would allow a pogo style seat but no go. The heads and trany are in the way. Ah well, a little springer seat will do nicely. Thanks again for the info.
