Default EVO case numbers

Good morning!
I am new to the world of Harleys and in need of some info.
My bike is a 1984 FLHT Police special, 80 c.i. EVO engine.
I need to know where to find the engine case numbers for insurance
reasons. On the right hand front side there are four stars stamped in the
casting, what does this mean???
Thanks in advance for any help.

I had a late 83 shovel with the same stars on the cam side of the engine. If you look at the other side above the primary cover, the engine has a round plug which is utilized for timing. The VIN numbers should be there.

I say "should" asaround in the early 80's, Harley changed the location of the VIN on big twins. If you don't see it there, could it be possible you have swappedcases?

FWIW,in 1990,I was accused by Honolulu Police CID for having a "hot" motor. The detective indicated the VIN should be around the area of the stars.I mentioned for him (HPD)to arrest me for stolen property and my lawsuit would be forthcoming.

CIDquickly backed off.

Regards,
-P

Thanks Shasta69.
I looked all around the cases and still no numbers. They are the original cases. Will look harder at this tommorow. By the way, this bike came from Honolulu. Asked a Harley shop about this and they said that there were a few early ones that were this way. Maybe someone else will come forward with more info.

Did you notice that this is an 8 year old thread?
I don't think any of the people who posted in this thread are still active in this forum.

I did see it was an old thread but other may of known the answer in which I have found. The vin numbers for I guess 83 and 84 were moved on the shifter side/left side just under the rear cylinder.

Problem solved we went to the owner of the new bike after looking it up and found the numbers also matching the numbers up front...All good!
