Default Does anyone know what could be causing...

my speedometer to be jumping around while it's sitting still and idling? It will sometimes jump up to 10-15 mph while sitting still...just kind of randomly. It's an aftermarket gauge set. It kind of makes me wonder if I can trust the speedo or the rpm gauges. Thanks!

What year's the bike? I'm guessing from your description that it's electronic driven Tach & Speedo with the magnetic sensor? If so, it's probably the magnetic sensor (screwed onto the trans) that's failing. I've had to replace mine a few times on the 97 Springer.

If they're cable driven, disregard the above, I don't have a clue.

If it's elect try cleaning the end where it hooks to the trans , they can get dirty , I just pull it & wipe it off with a clean rag & good to go

Sometimes an electric speedo malfunction is a warning sign that the transmission is making metal.

Huh? The stuff that I wiped off was "greasy dust."

It's a '97. I think it's electronic. It's a brand new gauge. It only had about 100 miles on the new gauges.

If it is a '97 then it is electronic.
