A far as I know, you can't "bump start" a newer injected bike once the battery has been run down. The electronics won't have enough voltage to run properly to allow the bike to start. At least you got a ride in!
Since we mostly don't have newer bikes here I don't see the relevance of your post.
The way I understand it you can't bump-start a vehicle that has electronic ignition if the battery is dead.
You've got to have some juice in the battery for it to work.
Usually you just have a low battery...not dead. You cant' "bump" start any Harley that doesn't have a generator or magneto, with a completely dead battery...alternators have to have field excitation voltage to have any output. EFI bikes can be bump started with a battery too low to operate the starter...seen it done.
