Some of you may remember my post about "should have left good enough alone"...but in any case, my bike was running PERFECTLY...we decided to "try something", which ended up being 4 adjustments at the same time and now it's running like crap...and we of course, can't get it back to where it was. This all leads up to:
Well, I got my Mikuni Carb adjusted back to factory specs (and I know that might not be what my bike wants but I have to start somewhere) and my bike is still backfiring out of the carb sporadically and backfiring out of the exhaust really bad...especially when letting off full throttle (or decelerating). One of the Adjustments that we messed with was the "timing advance" on my Fireball Hi-4 Ignition Module. I'm curious if the backfiring issues (out of the carb and the exhaust) might be related to the timing being advanced too far??? I tried backing off the advance about 2 clicks but did not notice any difference in performance...and I can't really tell if there's any difference in the backfiring issues (the throttle sounds like it MIGHT be a little more responsive advanced further forward). Keep in mind that the bike was running PERFECTLY before we screwed with it...so it has to be a combination of these four adjustments we made. I don't know where the carb was set before but it's back to factory specs now, so I'm screwing with the timing now...one thing at a time. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
If there's anything I can say it's get yourself some neon or bright paint I like the red colors and paint the marks you'll be using before you try to time it. I spent over an hour unable to find a mark. The paint makes a huge difference. Q tips carb cleaner and patience and it will make all the difference. I couldn't get a paint pen locally so I used spray paint onto cardboard then applied with the a tip stick after breaking off the cotton tip
