Default engine making oil.

I'm pretty sure it's coming from the primary. The Primary is low and the engine is over full. My question is can I run it like this? If I keep the primary full and the engine at the correct level. At least until I can fix it.

My gut instinct would say yes you could, but the next question would be, how long does it take for the primary to become low and the engine to become overfull??

If that change happens fairly quickly, then no, you shouldnt...

at some point harley came to the idea the main crank seal was installed backwards inside the primary so they turned the seal around

as the idea goes - if you run gear oil in the primary it will be a bad idea to drive it till its convenient to replace the seal < and yes install it open side facing you dont cheap it out change the race as well

I had the same problem, for years! I would carry a turkey baster, and every 50 miles, have to move oil from the tank to the primary. Everyone said I was nuts, it didn't go that way! Well, it did, for 3 years it did. Don't put primary oil in the primary, it's too light for the engine. I just put 20-50 in the primary, and it would get sucked into the engine, it never hurt my clutch. A shop had rebuilt my bottom end, and ever since that, I had that problem. I took it back to him 3 times, he'd take it apart, replace the seal, and it would still do it. He finally just shrugged his shoulders! I finally found a guy that had seen the problem one other time, and he fixed it. Replace the seal AND the spacer, run a bead of loctite on the inside of the spacer, problem solved. The oil was getting in behind the spacer. Don't let anyone tell you "it doesn't go like that", because it does.

I had the same problem on my 94. Not an issue if all the same oil. It does become a pain though. I fixed mine right away. No way I'd have delt with it every 50 miles!
