Default Honing the Cylinders

Can any automotive machine shop hone the cylinders or do I have to take the cylinders in to a motorcycle shop. When I took the cylinder in to HD for measuring the bore, they put the cylinder in a pressure plate (to emulate the cylinder mounted in the engine) before they took a measurement. Seems only logical that the machine shop would have to do the same before they hone. ??

Also, can they remove .010" of material with a hone? I currently have .020 over pistons and want .030 over.

Default RE: Honing the Cylinders

yes, they can do it if they have the tools.

if they use torque plates it will be fine.
it is posible to hone it .010, but it may be quicker to bore it most of the way, then measure the new pistons and hone to fit from there.
