Ok whats the real scoop? How far can you bore the heads? some say.040 some say .060 and I've been told the .070 is the biggest piston WHAT DO Y'ALL say? Having the top end done and trying to decide to replace the jugs or rebore. Thanks Dusty
I guess you meant 'bore the cylinders' rather than the heads.
You can go as far as +.070 over. But that is the end of life for such a cylinder. The proper thing to do is to bore the cylinder when the wear is great enough to do so.
At that time bore it only enough to clean up the cylinder walls.....no more. This will give you maximum life for the jugs.
'Boring out' to increase HP is a waste of a good cylinder in my opinion. Nothing is gained and you will not even notice the difference unless many other modifications are made to the bike as well..........pg
yeah dats what I meant. Dont care about increased hp, just want the best for the motor, its not like my sons dirtbikes ( you can go to the store an buy new ones) and I have no need to set land speed records. Wouldnt mind changing sprockets (can start out in 4th gear with a little clutch playing) and vibrates pretty good at 70mph. This is the first Sportster I've had in 40 yrs and would like it to last til I cant lift my leg over the seat anymore(lol) figure that will be 10-15yrs with luck thanks for the input Dusty
