Default Cam advice for 96" Stage 1

2008 FLHX with Rinehart True Duals, Big Sucker, SERT. Dealer recommends new SE-253 cams to get more umph. Is that too much for the 96?

The 253 is a terrible cam....if you what all your power between 2000 and 3500rpm the SE 255 would be better but in reality the Andrews 26 would be your best all over power and tq boost.

I thought the 253 &amp\\; 255 were tailored more for the Stage II builds rather than stage I?&nbsp\\;SE-204 are supposed to be real strong with the 96" w/stage I

If you are not going to do any head work I would recommend a cam that has less than 30 degrees overlap on these EPA motors.The tall gearing&nbsp\\;on 07/08 models also add to problems with picking a cam that comes on to late.Also look at the intake closing.35 degrees or less will work best in these 96ers.Regards,Tom

The 255 and the 253 are EPA cams...they got their start in the CVO bikes. Both of these cams will make power down low but fall on their face at 4200 rpms....the 204 will pull longer but won't touch the 255 for low end grunt.&nbsp\\; The 26 will be the best choice for both worlds in a stock motor.

And...the 255 won\\;t impact warranty. &nbsp\\;

I have a very similar setup as you.
&nbsp\\;
I as well as many others have had great success with Head-Quarters cams in the 96".
