Richen with enrichener
I have an 03 Wideglide that has SE 2 slip ons and an AN Big Sucker a/c. I live in New Mexico at about 1 mile above sea level. The carb has a 45 slow jet and a 190 main. When I start the bike, I get a little carb fart until it warms up. This is probably from being just a little lean. Just a little. Im not sure that I want to rejet when it is " Just a little" lean. I have found though that, if I pull the enrichener out " just a little" it takes care of the carb farts, and the bike runs great. By the way, I have not ever had popping on decel. Does anyone know if this practice could cause any problems down the line. It seems that the enrichener is just that. To enrichen the mixture. Make it not so lean. Or am I way off here. Any comments?
The enrichener does indeed enrich the fuel mixture by adding more gas, as opposed to a choke, which chokes off the air to enrich the mixture. \\; So you are not hurting your engine. \\; But it would be better to jet the carb properly for your elevation. \\; Unfortunately, that is kind of a hit or miss proposition, since every bike's modifications are different. \\; At the very least, I would think you would be better off with smaller main jet if you have to leave the enrichener out all the time. \\; Do you? \\; If you're saying you can push the enrichener back in when it's warmed up, well, that's what everyone has to do, at any elevation.
Thanks for your input mp. I started having the lean symptoms when I installed the Big Sucker ac. I expected the bike to run a little leaner. I dont have to have the enrichener out all of the time. I have had to pull the enrichener out a little even after a long run if Im at a higher elevation in the mountains, so its not like just warming the engine up. Sometimes I can push the enrichener all the way in, and sometimes I have to leave it out just a little depending on the say outside temp, or if its raining etc. I can adjust the way the bike is running with the enrichener. Again, Im just pulling it out just a little bit. I went to the HD dealer and picked up a larger slow jet, but all they carry is the #48 slow jet. Im just not sure if I want to rejet if Im that close. I have a friend that has been building Harleys for over 35 years. He is the one that suggested pulling the enrichener out a little. I just wanted to make sure I wasnt hurting the bike. Second opinion you might say. \\;
 \\;Thanks again

I think you need to be careful that the enricher is not dumping too much fuel in and washing the cyclinders.
You would be better off taking the time to set the carb up correctly. \\; Some times like in most of the time it just takes the air fuel screw to be set correctly. \\;

You may want to try a #46 pilot jet first at your altitude.
I got one from JP Cycle but here's a place to get them too.

With your air filter and pipes , you're probably at least a little lean.
I'm at sea level and the #46 just wasn't enough for me so the #48 worked well for my bike.
The #46 and having the pilot screw adjustable would probably do it for you.
Easy enough to try and you can't hurt anything with the #46 pilot.
