no compression
hi just wondering if anyone can give me an idea of what could be wrong with my motor ?I have a 80 cu evo.i was riding it last night and i died all of a sudden. when i went to restart it tuned over like it had no compression.super fast cranking. i checked bolh cylinder and thier is good sprark. but i have super low compression in bolth cyclenders . thier was a to of lifter and push rod noise before it died. any help to point me in the right directin would be appreciated.
Sounds bad. How old are the lifters? Stock Evo lifters won't live much past 30K miles.
Put the bike on a frame lift. Put the trans in 5th, and remove the spark plugs. Raise the push rod tubes so you can see tops of the lifters and the push rods. Turn the rear wheel to turn the engine over, and watch the push rods. They should all move the same distance up and down.
If they don't remove the lifters and blocks to see how they look. You can see the camshaft with the blocks removed. Take a close look at it and see of the lobes look OK.
If you don't want to remove the top covers, you can cut the push rods and replace with time-saver's. But if the lifters, blocks, and cam look good, the head covers have to come off.
