Installing studs?
I would like to find a stud kit and put them on my saddlebags and seat. I have heard doing the bags would be simple enough, but the seat would be impossible w/o taking thew actual seat apart. Any ideas or knowledge of this? Think it owuld look mismatched if I only had studded bags and a plain seat?
You'll have to take the seat at least partway down. You have to be able to get something on the backside of the stud to install it with the setting tool. If it's a stock seat, it is probably just stapled to the seat base. Pry the old staples out, partially remove the cover, install the studs, put cover back in place, restaple. If it's a custom seat it is probably riveted. Drill the rivets, slip the cover, install studs, cover back on, rivet with blind (not regular) rivets.
Check around at a leather shop or a hobby place like Michaels or Snobby Lobby for stud kits. They should be considerably cheaper than at a bike shop. There are several different kinds. Most have tabs that go through the leather then bend over to secure them.
