Default Check engine light problem

I have a 2009 superglide and the check engine light, has just came on, it has just started dying when I come to a stoplight. The speedometer has quit working, was wanting to know if anybody knows if the sensor that controls the speedometer could be causing other problems or could it be a air filter problem causing it to die. Thanks for any help you guys can offer...Roger

Get your owners book and go to how to find out engine codes.
There is a way with the ignition switch and those buttons there.
Pretty simple

I understand the speedometer gets its numbers from the ECM so thats where the problem is. As you said a sensor.
