headed home from work tonight I had to accelerate fairly hard to avoid a problem, near the end of accelerating my engine light came on for a short time (30 seconds max) and then went out. when I stopped at a light I had to accelerate up a hill ( Northern California) and the light came on again until I eased up on the throttle. I wasn't accelerating very hard, my oil level is good, full tank of gas, no problems the rest of the way home. Anyone know what events cause the engine light to come on. I dont have access to an engine code reader besides the dealer. Thanks

There's a procedure for getting the engine codes from the speedo. If I recall correctly, it's something along the lines of holding in the odo mode button while moving the ignition from off to accessory and having the engine run switch on. Then you can pull the code with the odo button. Do a quick google search.
so the engine code is P0108 Map Sensor Failed High Carb
P0108 Map Sensor High, the dealer explained the MAP sensor is in the intake manifold, he reset the code and said it was a faulty sensor or wiring. Can anyone explain its purpose better so I can have some piece of mind.
