Default need help

i'm in the process of tracing the original owner of my 'train...but till then, see if u guys can answer a few questions...(long post..but it's kinda kewl)

ok, friend of mine has a 2005 softtail standard with a stage 2 jet, modified air box and exhaust...

i have a 2004 nighttrain,i know i have exhaust, modded air box and possibly stage 1 jet kit...

here's where it gets good...

dead stop..we are dead even thru first, hit secon..he's in my rearview...bye bye...me 1, him 0

2 gear roll on.....was close for about 500rpms, lol. by the time i hit third, he's in my rearview....me 2, him 0

3rd gear roll on...see second gear roll on...lol..when i grabbed 4th..bye bye... me 3, him 0

him in 3rd, me in 5th roll on.....he proceeds to walk me until he gets in 5th, i start gaining, we are at 110mph...car decides to make left turn in front of us before i can pass....i'll give it to him so he doesn't goose egg..lol... me 3, him 1* (yep, asterick)

anyway..here's a question for u gear heads...based upon this (all other things like gearing are identical on our bikes) why is he only close in the lower rpms and then i fly away? is he running overly rich (he gets better gas mileage then i do, but not by much) by being over jetted? when my rpms build, u can literally hear my motor just take off, almost as if it's boosted..why? i don't get it...i have factory carb, just jetted, and i believe factory manifold...would a mild cam do this? if i turn my idle down to where his is, mine dies and sometimes belches...what gives?

sorry for the long post...hehe

btw, i'm heavier by about 65pds....

What is the weight difference between the two bikes? Since they are two different model bikes, what are the gear ratio differences, if any?

i don't think there is any weight difference or gear ratio difference. i mean, they are the same bike from the factory save engine color and handlebars, right?

if anything, besides myself being heavier (by about 65pds) i'd imagine my bike is as well...i have the solid rear wheel to his factory spoke...but other then that, they are all but identical (i have burly pull back drag bars, he has a thin version..he is using a long shot style v&h exhaust to my samsons rip saws)

all i know is, even with my fat a$s, i walk him like a scalded dog...it's not even really close when we start to rap them out. and i'm the fat guy of the two, my 220pds to his 160 or so

From what you say, it sounds like much of it is in the jetting, with you a richer top end and all things else being equal or thereabouts, however the exhaust would also make a difference too.
