Default Engine noise - not good?!

2007 Road King 96", stage 1 SE, apx 20K miles. Had an unusual warm day in between 'artic vortexes' and took the bike out for a spin... Hearing a 'grinding' or 'ticking' (sorry, bad descriptive words- will record next time) noise that I have not noticed before (reminds me of the sound of loose rockers back in the mechanical days of cars). Oil is fine, but should be changed... not sure what this is about. It's subtle enough to make me wonder if I'm hearing things. I need to look up the service requirements, but am wondering if it's not time for some sort of tuning? Any advice is appreciated... want to take care of business before spring riding kicks up! Thanks! "Dunk".

Sounds like you may have a bad lifter, or cam bearing. At the very least, I would look at the lifters.

If it continues, I'd have a look in the cam chest for starters, as that is the area most issues stem from.
