Default Ads

I understand the forums need to make money to stay alive, and normally I would just use adblock and be done with it, but I am on my work computer so that's not an option. Will the admins start moderating the amount of video's, gif's, and flash ads displayed on the forums?

All these animations and videos are seriously bogging down the browser, and often crashes in chrome. I have no problems whatsoever on any other forum or website. Only this forum, it frequently freezes and crashes.

It has gotten to the point I dread seeing this url in google searches, which is shitty because there is a lot of good information around here.

I don't understand why just about every sponsored ad needs to be a video or animation. this forum is for the users, without us it won't matter how many ads you stuff in the pages. pump the breaks with all these ads.

see examples https://imgur.com/a/JFAQs

edit: the mouse over random words and phrases ads are annoying. can the powers that be please find less obnoxious ways to monetize? i fear the day you guys add auto playing videos with sound.

edit2: just found this post from last week where other users are having problems because of the ads. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/forum...rums-slow.html.

Two words...ad blocker.

Since this only comes up every week, a stickie was made for this on this page.

Like I mentioned in the op that is not an option because work computer. But how is it even acceptable that the ads are such a problem that the forums moderators are advising users to use adblock. If the mods say to use adblock then why not just remove the ads altogether, since a blocked ad does not generate revenue?

Most sites discourage the use of adblock and in return they only display ads that do not interfere with the users ability to use the site. We all can agree that's cool. But around here the ads are so bad there is a thread about it every week. Someone should be coming up with a plan to fix the problem.

If the answer to the ad problem is just use adblock, the admins should take note that the users are not happy, and unhappy users abandon ship. Look what happened to digg when they stuffed ads down the users throats.

Just use adblock is not the solution it's a band-aid. Thanks for hearing me out.

Most of the unhappy people end up using an adblocker. So that argument is null and void.

Or they just stop coming to hdforums altogether. What good is a forum with no users?

I am just pointing out an issue that most of your users have, and must go out of their way to bypass. If the powers that be don't care, by all means add more ads. Good luck to you.

Considering the many people that are online each and very day here, I seriously doubt that if anybody left, including myself, that they would be missed, your call.

X2. Your job gives you a computer to perform a job they pay you for and you're going to complain that when you are screwing around on these forums on THEIR computer and THEIR time, you get too many advertisements?

Obviously I'm not the only one here that sees you're a little *** backwards in your complaint man. I'm betting your boss would love to see you posting this stuff on HIS time. Just sayin'.

Come on, guys, we all have less productive moments than others at work. No need to jump on someone for it.

The most troublesome ads should be gone once you log in to the forums. Like the hover over words, and the videos. When logged in, you should only see the top and bottom banner ads, plus a long skinny one on the right (the tiles below it are site sponsors, not external ads).

@fall0ut, @show-n-go what ads are you seeing and are you logged in or out when you see them?
