There’s been some kind of software change. It notifies me about likes on the mobile browser which there wasn’t before, but now I can’t see my username in the drop-down and I can’t check my private messages.

What version of Andriod are you running? I have always had two phones. One as a backup. Both are old now and out of date. I had to switch to the spare. Identical to its mate but some APPs that are on the other and work won't load on this one.
