Default Battery Tech info

I need some battery info. The last harley I had was a kickstart and I've just purchased a '97 XL 1200C. The bike has sat alot this season from the previous owner and the battery was a little low on water. I've since added dist. H2O and trickle charged it and it only lasts so long. Time for a new batt. I was going to get one from Walmart for what seems like alot to my budget($62 and some change) but a buddy of mine says don't go cheap on a battery, they won't last. He informed me that an electric start harley takes alot to crank it over and if your not putting fair amount of miles daily on it you will need to keep it on a trickle charger on and off. He also said that his last $70 batt only lasted a couple seasons with regular maint. and he's tired of it. So he going to get a Harley brand battery (for around $90) and that should take care of it. Is this my alternative to battery headaches? I'll have to take out a loan for a battery like that.
