Default RT Fairing Build Thread

Some folks said they were interested in a build thread installing a RT style fairing. The bike is a shovelhead FXR with a wide glide front end, I'll try to add pics of the critical steps, it won't be a step by step but should be helpful for someone considering installing a RT or RP style fairing on their bike.

This first series shows the original configuration as we received it, It's been diddled with over the years so you'll probably see parts on the bike that are not OEM FXR. We removed the wide glide front end and installed a narrow glide, fitted the wheel, brakes and fender.

Well, last time I posted the name the post disappeared so I'll just say it shares the initials of John Davis and you can see one in back row center in the first photo on the dyna.

Gotch ya, I would love to made this mod on my 83 FXR with the ability to return it back to stock in the future. The wiring in the headlight bucket would be one of the problems also I do not have the bosses on my steering neck. I have not been able to pull up a pic on the net that shows the factory bosses for the fairing on the late 83 and up FXR's.

I'm into this. I'm building one myself. I have an old rp fairing I intend to put on my low rider. So far, I've just been prepping it, but I'm getting close.

When you say "prepping it", you mean fixing cracks?

Rizzo, that's a good fairing. Jerry is a A1 guy. Is your shop in Deadwood?

Not my shop, I'm more of a shop rat - Hill City Cycles, used to be Sic Vic's House of Horsepower. Check out the Retirement Dream Gig thread to see what comes through the shop and some of the projects we've been working on...
