I got another one last Friday. I had planned on going to NY for the east coast jam, but ended up staying home. That weekend, I found this bike for sale in an old listing. I drove up the following Friday (which turned out to be a terrible trip) and picked it up. I'm pretty sure I paid too much for this one, but I'm happy to have it. I intend to get it running reliably and ride it as is. While it doesn't need too much, it still needs a lot of attention.
It's an 84. I originally thought it was a late 84, but now I think otherwise. It has a Primo clutch. The primary oil is fed by the engine oil, and it has an enclosed chain that seems to be in good condition. Would that make it an early bike or did all 84's get that setup?
I have one other question. Do I need a puller to remove the primo clutch? I have one for the old 4 speed clutches and one for a Barnett scorpion, but this is my first time with a Rivera.
Just realized I put this in the Dyna section. Oops
VERY Nice. Thanks for sharing. Any idea how many actual miles are on it..??
I believe the enclosed chain was dropped halfway through '84 in favor of the belt drive, but I could be wrong.
It looks great. What sort of attention are you finding it still needs..??
It needed a charging system, fork seals and tires. There is a leak from behind the inner primary. I had to fix some electrical issues, and there are some cracks in the fairing I'm going to fix. I took care of the fork seals and front tire this morning. I'm working on the inner primary, next.
Yes. I'm not sure if the system holds air, but its there. I just removed the inner primary to find the boot for the enclosed chain is leaking. At least the trans is dry. Tomorrow, I'm going to install a new rotor/stator/regulator. Maybe if I have enough time, I'll pull the rear wheel off and change the tire. I'm really looking forward to riding this bike.
