MeanCityCycles - Earned my respect
I was looking to replace the seat on my 08 FXDWG and ran across info here on MeanCityCycles so I contacted Allen about my needs/wants. I am 6'7" and had put a Mustang one piece wide touring seat with Kuryakyn 3” extensions on my 03. This set up was very comfortable for both my wife and I as we put in many 300-500 mile days with our longest day being just shy of 800 miles into Wall SD. My plan was to do the same on the Garage Queen 08 (4940 miles) I recently picked up, however I liked the two tone stock color of the OEM seat as it looks great with the black/bronze color scheme on the bike. After reading up on MeanCity I decided to contact Allen to see if he could rework the OEM seat giving us the fit and comfort we wanted while keeping the stock stock seat color scheme. I explained to Allen what we were looking to achieve with the seat and this was his reply
There are several factors that goes into modifying a seat. First the rider's heights and weights play a big part of what can be done plus the actual seat and seat pan design.
With the way the seat you have is designed and what you said you would like, to be lowered and moved back, isn't going to happen unfortunately, the way the seat pan is designed, if the riding position is lowered and how the seat pan is designed will actually push you forward. If you look at the side of the seat, you will see the foam has a angle on it and that shape is similar to the shape of the seat pan, It's kind of hard to explain without being able to show you honestly. So, with my poor explaining going lower isn't a good thing for a rider your height on that seat and honestly raising the riding position would be best and I would recommend our Double decker modification.
On the passenger section, I can improve it but since she really liked the Mustang seat, the width of the passenger section would need to be widened which we can do on that seat up to 2 inches wider over all but that wouldn't make that seat as wide as a Mustang passenger seat is but it would make the passenger section much better.
I doubt this is what you were expecting to hear but I like being honest with potential customers and if I can help I will certainly tell you that but if I don't think i am going to be able to a big improvement, I am not going to sugar coat it just take your hard earned money for us to make a buck and have an un-happy customer.
Allen was right it was not what I wanted to hear from him but it was the truth. He could have easily taken my money and given me a product that was not to my specs. My likely choice now will be to go with the Mustang and have Allen recover it to give it the two tone appearance as the OEM seat. It is rare these days that a vendor will put the customers satisfaction ahead of the $$

Allen definitely knows his $h@t and takes "personal" responsibility for ensuring 100% customer satisfaction. Back in 2011, when I was planning a seat mod, I called and was shocked to have Allen answer the phone + discuss seat mod options for 15-20 minutes. Sold me and I haven't looked back. Why pay 2x the price for after-market seat you may/may-not like when the stock seat can be modified for less than half the co$t...??
