This past weekend my local dealer had their open house. As a HOG member our local chapter helps out leading demo rides. We have a group so that we also get a chance to ride a few as well.
I was pleasantly surprised to the see the Lowrider S in the lineup. I was first in line.
At first glance I really like the styling. Not radical but the touches are just right in the right place. Until I got on it. The grips are the cheap standard black rubber. Black is the right thing to fit the theme of the bike but something nicer than this was what I expected.
Second complaint is that anyone, and I mean anyone over the height of about 5'2" is going to immediately hate the foot controls. Those stock mid controls are the worst position. I can be comfortable with the foot back position on sport bikes, forward controls, or my footboards on the Ultra but these are in just that awkward position that would not lend itself to more than short hops.
My only other complaint was the seat. It looks pretty good on the bike but that thing is hard. Might just need some breaking in but I am thinking a nicer solo seat would server this machine well.
Ok enough with the cons, time for some pros.
It has been a while since I have been on a dyna. I always liked the way these handle and this one was no exception. Light and nimble. It really felt like I could throw it around as easy as my buddy's Ducati.
Electronic throttle (which means cruise control) on this is very responsive. I am not sure about the cruise. This isn't the machine I would choose for a longer ride but honestly I rarely use the cruise on my ultra either. takes some of the joy out of it for me.
Ok, Ok, I know. Talk about the 110. This thing is awesome. There is so much power in this machine and it isn't even open. It has the bigger intake already and while the pipes look good it is really quiet. You could swap pipes and really crank it up. It might even be a little scary after that. I got a few really good handfulls of this baby and it felt like riding my old vmax. Power that wouldn't quit. You twist your wrist and you can feel the horses trying to run away and leave you behind. You really do have to hold on to this one.
This is one the most fun motorcycles I have been on in a long time. I would have taken one home with me but it probably would have cost me my marriage. On second thought......... Naw, just kidding. I wouldn't trade her but someday I might be shopping for or building something very similar to this Lowrider S. If you get a chance, I highly recommend taking a demo ride on one. It'll make you feel like a kid again.
As for the foot controls I disagree. Coming off of an Ultra (or any other touring bike with floor boards) will be a huge adjustment. I transitioned from a Road King Custom to a Dyna Super Glide three years ago with mid-mounted pegs and got used to them quickly. In 2014 the new Low Rider came along with 'Farther Forward' mid controls which moved the brake, shifter and foot pegs a few inches forward. Not forward controls and not quite mids. I, as well as many other, appreciate the new location. I am 5'9" and wear a size 10 boot.
As for the grips, I could not agree more! For some reason HD has decided to put the smaller diameter grips on all the Low Riders. It's as if girls or small guys are the only ones buying these bikes. They would be the first thing to go.

I am 6'1" and like the controls where they are. I even changed the pegs out to a nicer style and added rear mounts and pegs with matching grips(which are fatter). I don't have any complaints about foot position. I thought the factory pegs just looked cheap and an after thought. The new pegs raised my foot position about an inch or so. I did change the seat which moved me back a couple inches so that helped a little too.
I'm 6'3" and the controls are very good for me. They would be perfect if they were rearsets.
I haven't done many miles on it yet but like every bike that I have it will do some long touring duty. One can tour the world on a bicycle so anything with a motor enhances that.
The bike handles far better than the other Dynas. A great machine for riders.
This bike is lots of fun. I've changed the grips and pegs, and added rear pegs and have a 2up seat sitting on the shelf in case the wife wants a ride. Performance wise, it has all the power I need but is a bit quiet. Slip ons will be my only modification.
At 6" 1 and used to my Ultra the foot position is defiantly different than what I'm used to but I'm sure Ill adjust,as for power and handling it does make me feel like a kid again twist the throttle and it just keeps on pulling I don't have enough miles on it yet but so far its a keeper I installed a set of short shots and a FP3 so far no regrets.
