Oh man, the 2004's are junk, should have done your homework.

By the way, might want to check out your headlight, looks a few degrees high.

Welcome to the forum from Parksville. The simplest way is to put HD syn 3 in all the holes or start another oil thread on here. lol

Welcome from Spartan Country Michigan!!! search the forum and you'll find plenty about oils. Everyone has a favorite, and you will be wrong with whatever brand/type you choose!!! I recommend you get a three ring binder or notebook and record everything you do, service, repairs, accessories, etc. you will appreciate this down the road. Perhaps the best tool you can buy are the factory service manual and the parts manual. Much info in there. And be prepared for a bunch of comments, offensive and defensive from this joint! Many good people here!!!

Welcome to the forum from just south in Vancouver . As far as oil goes pretty much anything slippery will do but 20/50 is what is recommended. May text you next riding season as we head thru whistler a fair amount. If you need help just give a pm.

Hello from the other end of the Duffy!

You'll probably get 50 different opinions here, but I just use what's in the owners manual because that's what it calls for. Seems like plenty of guys use Amsoil and swear by it.

If oil made that much of a difference there'd be a consensus on it, in my opinion.

Got that right. Just two cylinders putting out fvck all for juice. Probably could use bacon fat . Interested in riding the canyon thru Duffy any time. Hit a few places along the way for some cold ones. Give a pm

Welcome from Michigan!!!

I'd be comfortable using any brand name of 20w-50w synthetic oil as long as it has the V-Twin additive as long as you change the oil at 5,000 mile intervals (or less).

The BIG issue with the early T/C engines is the cam chain tensioners.
If you don't know the history of your bike and if it has 20,000+ miles on the odometer you should at least have them checked or replaced.
Some people have had tensioners break part at 25,000 miles but others have lasted much longer.
If these tensioners bread apart the fragments can block oil passages and can (and have) caused serious (as in ruined) an engine.

You can go three different ways on these tensioners:
1. Use OEM tensioners
2. Install S/E Hyd. Cam chain adjuster kit with H.O. oil pump.
3. Consider converting to a gear-to-gear set up (engine noise would increase).

Between me and the wife, we have owned 5 Heritage Softails:
A '92, a '95, a '88 Heritage Springer-still have), a '99, and an '08 (still have) and all were reliable machines.

Enjoy your bike and you sure have some beautiful scenery up your way.
