Had a good ride going Sat. Then the dreaded Rattle gremlin reared it's ugly head.
Got home and dang if I didn't find it right away. The rear bolt on the belt guard sheared off. ?????? WTF A 5/16" bolt in a rubber vibration grommet.
Removed the saddle bag and the second bolt on the guard. The nut for the bolt is a Tab Nut. It's right into the edge of the belt pulley.
Harley knew it was possible to break off. Again ????? How in the Hell. Anyway. The tip end of the bolt had an allen socket in the butt. Did make it easy to get it out though.
Replaced it with a stainless steel allen head and all was right with the world.
Dude, maybe that's what happened to my Fatboy. My belt guard came off and got sucked into the primary. Shaved the belt in half and a quarter inch off of the left side of the rear tire.
Dealer and I were at a loss for words as to why...we both thought some sort of road debris knocked it loose.
