Default Is My Latest Mod A Safety Problem?

I'd appreciate some sound mechanical opinions. I love sarcasm and satire, but don't mess with my head on this safety question.

Check out these 3 images of one specific bolt that I installed as part of my rigid mount for my swing arm bag (Leatherworks 312L). I followed some advice on the forum on the rigid mount mod, but have a question.

Do you think there is enough clearance between the drive belt and bolt head? I test drove the bike 20 miles, checking it periodically, and no problems.

I used blue Loctite and will inspect regularly to be sure it's tight.

The stock setup used a nut embedded flush into the plastic belt guard, and a threaded stud screwed into it from the outside. There was no protrusion toward the belt.

Image 1: The overall view from rear--just to get perspective of the close-ups below. The bolt in question is the one at the lowest point by the drive belt.

Image 2: 1/8" gap between left side of belt and right side of bolt head.

Image 3: 1/4" gap between top of belt and bottom of bolt head.

It looks like it would be fine but I think I would use a rounded headed bolt just to be on the safe side...if it rubs it won't tear the belt up

Thanks Rooti,

I thought about a carriage bolt (rounded head), but if I ever needed to remove, the Loctite might cause the bolt to spin and then I'd need the bolt head to grab with a wrench for torqueing the nut on the outside. Thoughts?

Use a button head bolt, if it does hit / slap the head it won't damage the belt.

allen button head

Boozer and Rooti,

Right--Allen head button would take away the sharp edges and leave me a way to torque if needed.

I was sweating this one, thanks for the advice.
