If you like Sporties, get a Wide Glide and don't look back.

I'm 6'1" 210 lbs and I fit my Wide Glide well.

....get the dyna (or soft tail) and don't look back. you may want a bigger bike in the future, but you won't outgrow the former.

My "other" vote is for you to wait until you are finished with trade school and employed in a job that you like.

Your VFR is a fantastic m/c that if maintained will easily do 100K miles. It's not like you are without a decent bike. Forget the 883, you will be bored in 1/2 hr. I agree that a Dyna will most likely be your best choice.

With a $6K max, it would be at least 10 years old, and a breakdown will not be cheap and probably force you back on your Honda until you could afford to fix it, but if you really want to go this route, I would suggest not to buy a Sporty.
Good gen!

I agree with this. Keep the Honda and save up some more money. That’s always easier said than done, I know, but you’ve already exclaimed that you’d buy a Sportster until you could afford a bigger bike. Don’t go this route!!! It’s money wasted in the moment. Save your funds and just get a bigger bike right off the bat.

You will probably not be happy with a sporty at 6’, 250lbs, especially in a low slung seating position like you’re looking at doing. Might be ok for blasting around the town but commuting each day and taking longer day rides will become tiresome and uncomfortable.

It's good to have dreams to look forward to. OP, I'd agree with the others to make certain that the basics are covered before you start pursuing your dream bike. If you're asking us...being strangers and all...what kinda bike should you get, then it's not YOUR dream bike.

Patience, grasshoppah...patience.

(In case you're wondering, I didn't follow this advice myself.)
