Default Getting basement mold smell out of seat

I have a stock seat I'm putting back on a bike before I sell it.. Its been in the basement for the last 8 years. When I pulled it out into fresh air the musty moldy smell became real noticeable. I know I can leave it out in the sun but my experience with my boat seats tells me that takes forever to rid the smell. I only have 3 days to get the smell out before the bike gets picked up and its supposed to rain for the next 3 days. I washed the seats so the smell must be in the foam.

I dont want to be a douche and send the bike off with a musty smelling seat.

I read mold dies at 140 degs. I was even thinking of setting the oven to 140 and leaving the seat in there for 20 minutes (desperation) But not sure if that would effect the leather or plastic pan or the seat in general.

Any Ideas??

Don't put your seat into the oven !!!

Try a large trash bag with charcoal in it, be sure to seal it well.

Are you positive it's leather? If it's not try giving it a good dose of fabric refesher. I spray the seats and carpet in my 72 Nova with it after it sits all winter with good results. The car gets that musty old smell after sitting inside all closed up all winter. Other than replacing the foam on the seat that's all I can offer. Good luck!

Yes, this is a method that I have used on refrigerators...change out the charcoal briquettes every 24 hours...

Go have lunch at Taco Bell, sit on the seat & rip a few. That should take care of the mold smell.

Both Ultra Violet and Hydrogen Peroxide will kill mold spores. I recommend hospital grade hydrogen peroxide for cleaning, it's much stronger than the drugstore stuff. Wear glasses and gloves of course.

Vodka. Seriously. Put it in a spray bottle with some water and something with a scent (liquid air freshener) . Got the old lady smell out of the house I moved into as well as killed off the mold and removed the smell of the inside of a Bronco truck that had water on the inside basically forever.

It's become my go-to on anything that stinks.

Put it in your return air crawl space for a couple days. Your welcome.
