No worries Greg, no rides missed. My old battery filled the breach in the meantime.
I got the repair idea from my local indy and after that it was a one-beer problem figuring out the details. I don't think there was more than an hour involved fabricating the collar and completing the solder and cleanup.

" good comments here, both positive and negative. "

Was that a battery pun?

I just happened to have same prob a few years ago. I had an old lead bar used for covering seams in body panels. I also happen to have smelting gear (smelting pot and propane burner) for making my own sinkers. Didn't take too much thought to create my mold out of aluminum flat bar, melt the lead, and form a funnel to channel the molten lead into the mold. Mine actually held out for another year or so until the battery finally took it's final dump.

GREAT ON YA for achieving something most people wouldn't attempt! Yer the type of person that could come in handy on a long ride into the barrens!

Ha! No Dickie it wasn't, at least on a conscious level. Thanks for the giggle though

-self tapping screws might work

- drill and tap in new (larger) bolt threads.

JB Weld comes to mind. I have used it for lots of odd repairs.

I give A++
Reminds me of times gone by when my FIL said; "we'll have to fix it."

And he meant it; literally...............
