Default Riding with my son

My 20 year old son got his license about a year ago. A couple of weeks ago he bought an 883 sporty. It was a 2000 model and needed a little work and some tires. Got it out of the shop last Thursday and got it street legal by Friday.

We spent Saturday and Sunday getting him some road time together. (Friday was spent with him riding around the neighborhood) He's learning a lot as we ride the back roads and it is awesome to be riding with him.

We are planning to take a week long trip, but that is still way in the future. Looking forward to lots of miles and good times with him.

Congratulations on your new riding buddy. May you both enjoy many miles and years together. Photos required.

I will always hold the rides I was able to take with my father close to my heart. I hope their are more in our future, but I'm not optimistic. The weather is always too hot, or cold for him.

Good on you Ratbag67. I hope to be posting this very same thing some day about my son and/or daughter.

My dad and I always ended up having bikes at different times from one another, but one thing he does say is down here July and August can kiss his *** for riding. The rest of the year is prime riding.

That first ride is kind of special, a mix of love, pride and worry. I found out she loves leaning through corners, I was really grinding the floorboards on the old Tour Glide trying to keep up. A bit alarming at first, all she'd ridden before was a 250cc in a rider's course on a parking lot, but she's never had trouble on corners.

It's a 2000 883 also, and also needed tires. All my bikes were used, all had either worn out or way too old tires. All the sealed wheel bearings got replaced, too, some had probably been pressure washed, filthy gritty grease inside.

Congrats. Can't wait to start riding with my son. Got a rolling chassis parted out in the garage. Told him it's his when he builds it. Just need to find a cheap Evo to put in it. He might have it ready by the time he gets his license next year.

That is exactly right. Found myself watching out for both of us when he was following me. Can honestly say that was the first time I was worried and wearing a prideful grin at the same time. I'll take more of those.

He turns 21 in October, I foresee a daylong ride followed by a beer back at the house.

That awesome you and your son are able to be riding buddies. If he hasn’t taken the rider safety course yet maybe that is something you all can do together. I did the class offered by HD, and it is great. Even 20 year riders said they learned something.
