A couple weeks ago I had occasion to ride one of my bikes to the area that OP lives at. What a traffic nightmare. With some of the construction I had to deal with, they would be better off using glue.

I wouldn't want to be the Civil Engineer in charge of protecting hillside and mountainside roads from gravity.

I know what you mean. Seams like I-40 crossing the mountain from Asheville into Tenn. is block due to rock slides more than it is open.

It helps to remember that the Smokies and the Appalachians used to look like the Rockies.

Several million years and few ice ages fixed that issue .........

Santa Cruz mountains and PCH out here are nightmares when we get a wet winter, even the canyon near me has regular rock slide closures.

It seems for some reason here in SW Pa,we have had a large amount of hill side slide from winter on. It was literally one after the other. A lot of people displaced from their homes.

SC sucks, but they make up for the horrible road conditions with 60 mph speed limits and Troopers behind every third street sign.
