Default Cycle Shell??

Anybody have one?? Came across these looking for winter storage earlier. My bike is at my Dads now, but these seem pretty nice.

I went with a shelterlogic shed-in-a-box. $160 at Menards. If you are limited on space it wouldn't work for you, but 10x10 and 8ft tall, fully enclosed. I like it because there is enough room to work on the bike when on a jack. I put in metal shelving to store saddlebags, wind shield, seat, cleaning supplies, etc. when wrenching/cleaning the bike.

I had one for 5 years, and they are waterproof, wind-resistant (aerodynamic shape), easy to operate and move around, but not insulated.

FYI, this is a similar product: http://www.thebikebarn.net/model_tourer.html

I saw it in a post somewhere herein last year.

It would seem that if a bike had to live outdoors all year one of these units would be a good solution. I could see placing a very small mat heater or even a light bulb under the unit to keep it dry during long term storage.

Will be gone after the first hard snow fall what a waste of money.

Do you know this first hand or are you just rendering an assumption?

I'm guessing PDB17UltraRG would think a better solution would be to move to Florida and maybe buy a house with a Garage.

From everything I have read, these ride-in enclosurers are pretty good when there are no orther choices.

Thought about this. But really worried about wind with something that big. Certainly a possibility tho.

You were happy with it then? Just get rid of it??

Yep, saw those too. Like these because they have a floor and seem to “seal” most **** out. The Bike Barn is nice tho because it looks like you could work inside it, if need be. Although, I wouldn’t.

False. Rated really well for the winters.

The idea is to build a garage. But that’s been pushed off every year for one reason or another. Plus, the way my land is, there is no simple garage solution. This isn’t mainly about winter storage, although, that’s would be nice. This is more for everyday usage. The old bike just sat outside and had to cool down before I covered it. If it was late at night, no cover. Since I bought the RK, I don’t like that idea. This would keep it out of the elements. Ideally, the sun if it’s just sitting. I certainly like the concept.

Not too sure that (in red above) is the best thing. Read http://www.thebikebarn.net/accessories_floor.html

Also, check out their heater writeup under in accessories

I would agree with the floor if located on an unpaved surface, but might be inclinde to think no floor if located on a paved surface.

Have you thought about an enclosed trailer?
I know when I do trailer my bike I use my trailer as a "garage" when we get back to where-ever we're lodging at.

With mine I simple lift the top and ride it in and park it in my Condor wheel chock.
You can pick up a used trailer often times for less than $1500 and it's available for other uses.

If you don't have a larger vehicle you can keep an eye open for a modular trailer like the one I have.
My trailer (Excalibur) is a 700 .lbs motorcycle trailer so it can be towed behind any vehicle empty and with a mid-size vehicle with a bike.
