Oil filter differences
What was changed on twin cam oil filters when they added the A to the end. I believe this happened in 2005. I have a couple old filters and wondering if the would hurt a newer bike
Ive been using K&N oil filters for as long as I can remember (which ain't long) I have a buddy that is a Harley Davidson master technician. He said that I need to use the filters from Harley. He said they have done many test and that the Harley filter is by far the best. He no longer works for Harley because he opened up his own shop with another master tech. So I trust everything he tells me since he has no ties with Harley Davidson any longer. Just my two cents
I've checked the prices between an H-D brand filter and what the Farm & Fleet store by my house carries and the $2 cost savings is not enough to not buy H-D for me. As far as the difference between an H-D filter and a K&N filter, it is in the micron filtration factor.
Does anyone know if Wix makes the filters for H-D or is it someone else? I use Wix on all my vehicles because I love the quality and filtration material.

I remember the change over on my 2002 Dyna, the answer I got was the filters prior to 2005? were 10 micron paper and the newer ones are a synthetic media down to 5 microns because of closer tolerances and the introduction to more and more synthetic oils for motorcycles. Just my 2 cents.
I use WIX on both my Wide Glide and Heritage. As was mentioned above, the WIX ones for the Twinkie do have the same micron rating as the MoCo ones.
Don't have the part numbers with me at the moment.

If you put a twinkie oil filter on an Evo, it restricts the flow because Evo filters are 10 micron and twinkies are 5 micron.
If you get an Evo filter from the dealer these days, you have to get a Sportster one (still 10 micron)..
You can put a Evo filter on a twinkie, but it won't filter as efficiently.

Good information. persoanlly, I do not know how much of this really matters if you change your oil frequently.
I have a pair of Continental aircraft engines that each take 12 quarts of oil and have no filters; that's right, no filters at all - just a screen like old Volkswagons had. The oil gets changed every 25 hours of operation. Each engine cost more than a new CVO.
