Question about buying a Harley Touring frame
I want to build a custom bike with a harley touring frame. I want to try and avoid buying a used 2010-2012 road king or any other touring model. Im mostly looking for the frame. Ive seen plenty for sale on ebay that are salvaged and bent. If I bought one of those cheap. Could I then contact Harley to tell them Id like to replace the frame? One of my buddies got in an accident with a 2006 Road King and the frame was bent. The shop was able to get him a replacment frame from Harley. They cut the neck off with the vin and sent it to Harley. Then Harley sent a new frame. Is this worth it if it can be done, or is a new harley touring frame too expensive? Reason I mentioned the Harley frame is because i could register it and avoid the hassle of an inspection with some after market frame and all the parts.
Unless someone can recommend a frame company that comes with a vin and can be registered as a regular bike.

Im trying to help my buddy look for a softail frame right now. It seems there are no clean title frames out there..All the ones on ebay are on rebuilt title. Or you can get an aftermarket one. I couldn't justify spending money on a rebuilt titled frame, then spending all this money on parts..At the end of the day you have a rebuilt titled bike..It just doesn't make sense
Good luck! If I find anything I'll post it here.

Have you two heard anything about www.cdcmotorcycles.com. Apparently they sell re-manufactured frames at a low price. Looks like they weld new necks on their frames. And they make new frames as well. Prices range from $1800 to $2100 on their remanufactured frames. Ive been looking around to find any reviews. No bad ones at least.

I'd be ok with branded title. If you ride, your bike will be worthless anyways. Selling it might an issue cause so many used bikes, you can pass on anything odd. But if a guy could prove it salvaged 10 years ago and he has been riding it, and I wanted it, I probably would. Granted I am talking cheap used market. If you trade up every few years, bad idea.
As for matching numbers there are catalogs full of engines to buy. Come states check anything
