Jetting
Looking for some help on jetting a new sportster (2005) Just joined 5 minutes ago so i'm not sure if i', in the right place 883custom just purchased vance and hines straightshot hs pipes and the screaming eagle air cleaner kit don't want to put pipes on untill I know how to jet it I figure the dealer has a set of standard things they do and ship them out the door with that. I'm trying to find out what jets they change (jet # for this sportster) along with air mixture settings and weather or not to change the main jet and or weather or not to mess with the slide Spring and or vac hole size (drill out) I hear 1/8 size then I here 1/8 to big does anyone know thanks

RE: Jetting
Check in the Do it yourself section. Great articles and easy to follow instructions and pictures. Never messed with a carb before and was able to rejet mine easily. Read up on it then go buy the jets. It's very easy to do! Good Luck.

RE: Jetting
Info I got from an old HD wrench is to go one size larger on the slow jet. Install a 1988 1200 Sportster needle, cut two coils off of the slide return spring, and open the idle screw 2 to 1/2 turns out from the bottom. the combination has always worked well for me. Cost is about 15.00 if I recall.
I have drilled the vaccum hole on some and left it on some. I'm not sure I noticed much difference. I don't know what size drill to use. The one I had came with a jet kit that I ordered for 90.00. The jet kit was no better than just doing the above.

Bill
