Is this 2000 roadking a good price?
I'm looking at buying a Harley (non sportster) to try out. I'd like to ride it for a season and sell it when i'm done (or maybe keep it). I prefer to break even or maybe make a profit (i'm "thrifty")
106 000 KM (65 000 miles).
Sat for a few years, clutch cables and few odds and ends done, seller road it all summer.
He told me it has a bit of valve noise and some oil coming from primary
i am good with a wrench, not knowledgeable on Harleys though. Figure i can handle it
price is 4000 CAD (3200USD)

The 2000 T/C 88's had three issues:
1. The cam bearing was a concern and H-D extended the warranty to 50,000 miles.
2. The cam chain adjusters could wear out and fail, sometimes with low mileage.
3. If they were EFI engines, the used the M/M units and if it fails parts, as well as tech's who know how to make them run properly are hard to find.

ehhhhhhh
how willing are you to take a risk?
if it needed 2500 CDN to get it into great shape do you have the money and since parts are hard to get in the USA, I can't imagine getting them in Canada is going to be any easier.
Date codes on the tires?
EFI or Carb?
seals, fluids, brake lines and such ...

No. I sold my 2003 FLHTCUI, which was running fine, with a new rear tire, for $4,500. Because the rear seal was leaking. That was one repair, other than that there were no serious problems with my bike. I had 52k miles on the bike, and it was always serviced by a professional mechanic, indy or dealer.

Thanks for replies all.
The particular bike was the cheapest big engine Harley I've seen advertised for about 5 months. But, they do come up from time to time. There are several other similar bikes to that one for sale right now, all about 30% more and probably all in same condition. Having said all that, I am going to hold out for a seller who is a bit more on the up and up.

Despite the superficially chaotic appearance of my garage, the motorcycles residing in it get very good maintenance - much better than the manufacturers recommend and with much more love and attention to detail than they would at the Stealerships.
