Clean up and check bolts for tightness after every day of riding!!!! I have been known to ride her when she's not at her cleanest, but more often than not, she's "clean and ready for the dance".
I'll ride the Fat Boy dirty but most of the time its clean. When I get back from a ride I will usually wipe the bike down with Meguiars Quick Detail, takes about ten minuets. What I enjoy doing once a week is going out in the garage, turn on the local sports talk radio, pop open a beer, clean and polish the bike, pop open another beer, clean some more, another beer. Ya thats almost as enjoyable as going for a good ride
I wipe my bike down after every ride - even if it's quickly. Rinse it down and give her a quick wash once a week (if ridden) and once every 2 months or so I'll do a more involved cleaning. I don;t get nuts about it but I keep her looking good without being obsessive/compulsive about it.
Any time I see obvious dirt anywhere - it gets cleaned...a little bit here and there will save you from any marathon cleaning sessions - unless you go mud-bogging or something crazy like that.
My baby definitely spends more time dirty than clean. I think I've only been able to wash her 3 or 4 times since I bought her back in April. The dealership washes her when she's in for service too.
On the days it's nice enough to clean her, I am RIDING her!
I hate a dirty bike and I'm not ashamed to admit it. but I ride more than I clean. I took it out in the rain a few weeks back and that dirt is still on it.
If there is enough daylight left, then I clean my bike after I get finished riding it. It's a habit that dates to my motocross days. Plus, I had to bust my *** to pay for this bike, so I am trying my best to keep it in perfect condition. It only takes a few minutes to spray it with some Honda chrome cleaner or S100 and wipe it down. Plus, the bugs come off a lot easier if they haven't had time to totally dry out and it's a good way to spot anything that's worked loose.. I don't go to bed dirty.... and niether does my bike.

I like a clean bike and I put out lots of hard earned money to buy her so I do try to at least give her a quite clean after every ride. I may not get to it for a few days after, but I usually will try to clean the road dirt and bugs off. I don't go crazy over detailing but once a month or a little more if she's riden often.
isint riding down the road in a pouring azz rainstorm the same as a quick rinse with the hose? thats what i figure it to be so i frequently wash my bike here in Washington. and if its not, then ill only wash my bike in the summer when theres actually a chance it will stay clean for more than 3 months: minus the bug buildup!! if its actually nice outside, i might give the girl a good bath and put some polish on the chrome, but she gets ridden more than washed! i love her even when she is dirty and smells funny, just the same as when she is clean. mmmmm..... i think the sun is trying to come out for the first time in 2 weeks........ i think i will go and enjoy what a day it might be.
