I am doing a class project for my management class on HD. We need to have some sort of flow chart(shows how upper management is setup). I am having alot of trouble finding this![>:] Can anyone help me out with one or atleast decribe how it all works so i can draw my own up?
I assume they are structured similar to other companies, in a piramid with CEO on top (reporting to the board of directors); reporting to him, down on the next line, would be VP manufacturing, VP marketing, VP Sales, VP design/engineering, VP finance. There possibly be a few group VPs between the CEO and other VPs. Plant managers would report to VP manufacturing; advertising/planning to marketing; advertising, dealer relations, promotions and product pricing to sales; accounting, tax, investor relations to finance, tec. There obviously would be several other functions like human resources, regulatory, purchasing and others, all reporting to someone in the executive hierarcy.
What you are interested in is their organizational chart, not flow chart. Enter that as a search and you'll find lots of stuff.
Here's something from Fastcompany.net, claiming HD has a non-traditional structure.
Pretty straightforward stuff, should be able to find lots by doing search. Good luck.
"Harley Reinvents the Wheel
The standard organization chart for an old-line manufacturing operation is a pyramid, with rigid boundaries keeping functions strictly separate. At Harley, the organization chart is a circle -- three overlapping circles, to be more accurate: a Create Demand Circle, a Produce Products Circle, a Support Circle, and in the center where the three circles intersect, a Leadership and Strategy Council.
There are a lot of places you can get information, like their financial reports, websites like Morningstar.com and others. Search the web and see what you can find.
Picture a typical top-heavy corporate structure, bent on squeezing every penny out of their customers that they can with inflated product prices, overpriced service and declining quality. Now that my meds are kicking in, I feel better. Jeez, I sound like that guy on the other thread going around.
