The CA DMV can't give me an answer!
I stored an 03 anniversary dyna lowrider since 2015. The guy I stored it for died. The word is I can't do a private lien sale. So, as per DMV I am supposed to have it towed and default so the tow yard can do a lien sale for storage and I lose the bike and the money. I have no idea what to do from here. The bike Is perfect and I got as far as lien letters sent. Nobody holds an interest in bike. However, the dmv won't accept because it's a private party lien. HELP!
Can you contact the trustee for his estate? If the bike is still registered to him, it's part of the estate. The trustee should have the legal power to sign the title over to you, whether as a gift or at least to compensate you for storing and caring for the property. You should contact a relative, and see who is responsible for his estate.
You should post this in another forum. Perhaps "General Harley Davidson Chat" is a better spot.

Who is handling his estate? His estate holds the interest in the bike and probably the title if it was in his records. The executor of the estate will need to see the lien documents to settle the estate if the bike was included in the estate inventory.
When did he die? do you have time yet to file a claim against the estate ? That would be the first question. If his estate has been settled. Send a little money and talk with a lawyer experience with DOT issues. Because the person on the phone or at the counter told you so don't always make it so.
