Default HD Security System

I read Yellowtang's post about his brother's HD getting lifted... made me wonder how much peace of mind should I expect from the security system I ordered with my bike? Are there better after market systems?

Oh, and my bike ships in 1 week [sm=happybounce.gif][sm=groupwave.gif][sm=massbounce.gif]

The security system on the HD's are fine, but if someone wants your bike bad enough the will get it. That's why you keep it insured and take the necessary precautions.

Something is better than nothing, more is better, but nothing is perfect.

I think the Harley system is better than nothing, but just this side of nothing. Want to steal any Harley really quick? Four guys in a van and two steel bars. Back up to the bike, out jump the guys who lift the bike with the two bars into the van, and off they go. Gone in WAY, WAY less than 60 seconds!

The only thing that works is insurance.

Like mcdowell25 said, if they want your bike they will get it. Back in the late 80's, my dad had a friend who had a 48' pan, two guys broke into his house and robed him at gun point. But the harley alarm system use worth it IMO.

Anything that makes it harder for them is a good thing...

That's pretty cool... lojack boasts a 90% recovery rate. They don't have coverage in Hawaii though. Their list of coverage is located here; http://www.lojack.com/pdf/Coverage_Apr%2007.pdf

my H~D security system took a dunp today and left me stranded. Driving along everything good, security lite comews on. Then check engine lite, then neutral lite all while driving along.. Made a corner and bike quit. Bike would not start and security lites blinking. Could not by pass it on the 05 at least I could turn it off. Butt the much improved 07 has no button in the key fob.

Yeah, the newer bikes don't have an arm/disarm button on the key fob. However, when you set the bike up you have the option of setting a series of button pushes on the turn signals to disarm the alarm. f the TSSM Module took a dump while riding you are a bit screwed. I'm guessing that's a clutch in and coast to the shoulder type of problem. Immediately followed up by a phone call to a buddy with a trailer.

I added the HD security system with an alarm to my ride earlier this year. I like the extra piece of mind that it gives me. I set the alarm on my bike everytime I walk away from it just like I do my truck. When at home the bike is cabled to a large stationary object with the cable running through the frame. The fork is locked and all needed keys are kept out of sight and away from the bike. My girlfriend thinks I'm a bit neurotic about locking my bike up at home . . . . but at least I can make it harder to take.
