Default HD security system

Is the factory security system (disables bike, but no alarms) worth the money when buying a new bike?

Thanks for any advice.

It will delay a professional thief for about30 more seconds compared to one without. That’s the scuttlebutt anyway.

I orderd mine without. Saved about 400 bucks and made no difference in my insurance. I did check that before ordering. A lot depends on where you live .

Personally I think its a waste of money. If they want your bike they will get it.

It's very convienent for me. I can't drive away without my keys any more. Used to have to carry a combination lock to lock the brake rotor because I forgot the keys....not any more!

I have it installed on my bike. I added the Security System Smart Siren II and rechargeable pager-receiver.

I figure it might come in handyovernight ina motel or leaving my bike in a parking lot during dinner or shopping. I don't delude myself inthinking that it will do anythingto detera professional thief. Having said that I imagine there are lotsmore nonprofessional thiefs out there than pros. If they see the red key blinking they might just look around for a different bike than mine.

FYI the Smart Siren is loud enough to get people's attention.

So are these sirens like the ones in cages that go off for no damn reason and embarass the hell out of you. Maybe even get you a ticket. Wouldn't mind having one to give me some peace of mind about people messing with the bike while I'm at the beach or whatever but I don't want to be worrying about false alarms.

Absolutely worth it.
Thieves evaluate cost-risk / result ratio like anybody else setting to a task. If they can choose, they'll choose the "not worth it" people bikes over yours.
Moreover, for any "pro" (whatever that means) out there there are a thousand amateurs.
100% security does not exsist. But you may "harden" the target and make your chances a hell of a lot better.
A bulletproof vest won't make you invulnerable, but beats the hell out of wearing a bullseye, right?
