the quick realease is great for washing, cleaning behind, and changing the look of the bike. But!!!! i had a hanging bicycle in my garage; and one day I moved the bike to another spot over the motorcycle, not realizing that when I straightened the motorcyle up and backed up the quick realease hit the hanging bicycle and then dropped over onto the motorcycle fender causing a nice dent. 350.00 later for new front fatboy fender; i wonder about the quick realease....anyway thats my story and i am sticking to it...bike was three weeks old at the time. sold the old fender with dent for 100.00 so not so bad. pretty stubid ha.

I put a QD on my RK Custom. I put a shorter than stock shield on it....I do like the feel of the wind...but keeps enough off to be comfortable on longer rides. When I'm on shorter rides I like to take it off.....its the best look IMO.

I'm also considering a detachable faring as Joe describes above......but the bottom line is versitality with comfort and look.

Variety......its the spice of life!

When I first purchased my RK Custom, I ordered the low profile QD wind screen. Let me just say, DON'T get that one. IMO, the thing did not look that great, so as soon as I got the bike home, I took it off, and it stayed off until I went on my first trip. Well the thing throws a LOT of air at your face. The only way to stop my nose from vibrating from the wind was to duck down. Needless to say, I bought a standard QD windshield at the first dealer I came to. It was a world of difference, and I love it. I use it on longer trips or in colder weather, but take it off around town because the bike just looks so much better. I have never had any problems with the windshield wanting to fall off. My latches work great.

Have QD, perfer the look without it, and getting sick looking thru it. It is a sport model from HD and has a curve distortion and really scrambles my vision. I think I am going to cut it down lower. So how does everyone use their windscreens? Do you look through or above?

I have the QD on my 05 springer classic as well as my 94 nostalgic, completely satisfied with both. Handy when cleaning also nice to ride to Myrtle Beach with it on and take it off when I'm riding around there.

Most QRs have adjustment built in to where you can increase or decrease the force holding the clips on. It usually takes a small allen wrench. I have two H-Ds and a windshield on each. I keep them tightened down to the point that they are not QR, but I also carry the allen wrench in my pocket. I can still take them off in a jiffy. ........... BC

I've got the standard quick detachable, but I only take it off for cleaning. It popos off and on in a matter of seconds. I think it looks cool, and makes riding quiter, and deflects rocks, etc. I wouldn't ride without one!

FXDWG3: Most recommendations are that you size or adjust the windshield vertically so that you are looking over it by about 1 inch. You head should still be in the "still" area behind the windshield so that wind buffeting is minimized. Then you don't have to look thru the plastic. ..... BC

There is a section in the forum by BillNourse describing a step-by-step procedure for cutting down a windshield. I cut my Heritage Classic detachable down 3" and really like it better, It still deflects probably 90% of the wind prio to the cutting. I never take mine off, but I'm an old fart.
