I have a standard height QD on my '05 FXDI. Mst of the time in the summer it is off, as I like the looks of the bike better. This fall when I put it back on and started riding with a full face helmet and the sun went down earlier and the weather was not as nice, I realized that I am going to have to shorten it. I'm short and I'm looking entirely through it and at times the visioin can really get distorted. I remember Bill's column and am planning on shortening it as my spring project. At first, I was afraid of the looks, but after looking at the new bikes at the dealer and seeing the really short windshields, I decided (like I eventually do with most things in life), screw the resale value and what other people think, I want this the way I want it.
I could just go without it all of the time, but it is really nice when on a trip or when the weather is changable and it's really nice when you start out, but really chilly when you're coming home. Glad that I have it for those occassions. Art
I have the quick release on my RKC. The only time it has been on my bike though is when I rode it home from the dealer. I do not like windshields. To me, part of the fun of the bike it blasting through the wind.
I use the standard HD King Size detachable. I think that it's great for long rides especially when two up because you can carry on a conversation. But in town, it's usually off. You know, for some reason it seems to reflect the sound of the long shots right at me though, especially when running full throttle. I mean It gets loud! Another strange thing is that according to HD, the king Size is not supposed to fit when using the Deluxe passing lamp set, but it fits mine without any problems. [sm=biker.gif]
Have QD, perfer the look without it, and getting sick looking thru it. It is a sport model from HD and has a curve distortion and really scrambles my vision. I think I am going to cut it down lower. So how does everyone use their windscreens? Do you look through or above?

I have the same problem with distortion on my QR. It falls right in my line of sight so I'm looking half through it and half over it. I'm going to cut 2 inches or so off it this winter when I get around to it.
