Default Quick release windshield help?

So I was looking for a quick release windshield for the sportster.....do I gotta pony up the three hundred some odds ollars for one....or do I have other options.....can I get hardware from Harley and a different shield?....any other options?....just lookin to save some money......I was also worried about buffeting....I've read a lot of people saying they just get smacked in the face with the wind instead of it blocking it......Ryan

I've bought both of mine, used, on eBay, for ~$150.

When the wind is just right I get some buffeting. But my windshield comes off only to clean. An essential accessory.

Never thought I would like a windshield till I bought a bike that had a quick detach on it. It was in the 40's on the way home that day. I love it! Maybe in the summer heat I'll take it off. Maybe.

So far the turbulence at certain speeds isn't in anyway a deterrence.

I had the harley quick detach on my 1997, and had to get rid of it,tried everything kept
cutting tell their was not much left.
Bought a national cycles windscreen, and never had a problem with buffeting since.

I have this one for my nightster:

Great blocking and very little if any buffeting. Rode in 30* weather and was perfectly warm.

Heres my bike with it installed:

The one good thing the HD detachable offers over the ones like Memphis Shades is the entire windshield is one unit. There are no parts installed on the bike. The HD uses friction locking clamps to attach to the forks.

I didnt want to spend the money either. In the end I did, and dont regret it. Love the harley QD. The hardware seems to be very high quality and Ive had no issues at any speed.

EBay or Craigslist. I agree it's hard to justify $350 for a piece of plastic and a couple clamps. Then if you don't like it or doesn't work for you, you gotta shell it out again to try something else.
