I've bought both of mine, used, on eBay, for ~$150.
When the wind is just right I get some buffeting. But my windshield comes off only to clean. An essential accessory.
Hahaha you bought it from me.
Thanx for the quarter fairing.
Small world.
I have sold 20 of these feeling like an expert now
I have got them to work on 35mm forks
I have huge hoarde of clamps and brackets
The new lexan is 130 if you can find a haggard one with good brackets and clamps 130 makes it new again.
I have paid 50 for perfect ones but they are few and far between
Will let you know if I come up on another one
I bought my HD Quick release windshield from craigslist for $120 for 1200C.
I got obvious buffeting only in windy day with speed above70mph. The buffeting got reduced after I moved my feet from forward control to passenger peg.
I am around 5.7 in tall. The top of windshield is around my chin.
Overall, IMO, buffeting is not as horrible as I read before I put my windshield. In winter, I would rather live with the buffeting than the cold wind blow.
I have the Sport Quick Detatch as well, and I get minor buffeting at around 70-75, but not enough for me to complain about. I'd rather have 90% of the cold wind deflected off my torso than ride without it.
I went with HD largest they had, needed to trim around accessory lights so I added the leather to the lower side.
The shield really enhances the ride. I ride almost daily sometimes 250 miles a day for work and without the shield the fatigue would be too much. I like / need it.
Craigs list was the place to go for me also. Found a near perfect Harley shield with the hardware for $75.00 . Its on and it will probably stay on even in the summer. I had a Memphis Shades on the bike that I had installed at Bike week. Buffetting was a huge problem. The customer service dept there was very helpful but at high way speeds I felt like an out of control bobble head.
I have the 18in QD windshield and I found if I move the windshield as far up the forks as I can that I get no buffering, but I am only 5'7. My eye level is just at the top of the shield. during cold mornings found best to lower the shield as far as can to reduce wind coming under the shield, a little more buffering but my torso stays warmer
I have the National Cycle Deflector DX. For $140, it does the job, but a little hardware is left behind on the handlebars when I remove it. I wanted the HD QD, but I couldn't find a used one with the black braces and I wasn't ready to spend the $350 on a new one.
We've used the Harley QD on both my FXDF and the SO's XL1200C. No problems with either. A bonus is that after Sandy ate our bikes, we did salvage the QDs to use on our new ones. Take the knock on the head and spring for the Harley.
