Help! I have a 92 FLHTCU, with a 100" Revtech on it, that way when I bought it last year. It had always had a sluggish start when on the compression stroke, as it should be, anyway, the starter clutch went out @ a week ago. I replaced it, checked out everything, all looked real good, back together it cranked like always, doing okay for @ 5 days. Then on Monday morning, getting ready to ride to work, it was colder, @ 29 degrees. It slowly tryed to start but never really spun, I thought it may be the battery, so I charged it, no help. Bought a new battery, no help. Pulled the starter, took it to a friend who rebuilds them, he said there was no problem with the starter, it looked Rearl good! Well, what the hell! Put it back in, carefully exaiming everything for problems, saw none. Now, with the battery fully charged, when I try to start it, it rolls real slow, not even a complete cycle without great hesitation, the lights go off during this step of trying to start. From what I have read in the service manual,it could be a short from the switch to the starter, maybe a nick in the wire, causing a loss of voltage before it reaches the starter, not then having enough to spin the motor. Or a bad ground on the starter relay. Does anybody have any ideas on this or what to look at? I am so pissed off at that @#**%$# right now, but then I love my bike so I gotta get it going, having withdrawels, haven't ridden in 5 days now! I am open to any ideas short of a new bike. I am a die hard evo man. Been riding for 35 plus years, Harleys for about 20 of those years, sportsters, soft-tails, and now my bagger, and I must say noe that I am a BAGGER MAN ! With that 100" revtech, screamin' eagle ignition, and Kerker pipes, Zeus has @ 104 H.P., there ain't a sportster around that can touch it. I love it when those sporties think they will walk away from me, when it is the other way around. Get one of those higher amp starters. It could be that Revteck has a high enough compression to require a bit more kick from the starter????
